Three Paths to Glory-- Tar Heel Book Recommendation

I was going through my small book collecetion last night and came across a gem--Three Paths to Glory. It documents a year of basketball in the Triangle, following three of the most historic programs (UNC, NCSU, Dook) seperated by about 30 miles combined. Being a Carolina fan, I enjoyed this book even more because the year documented was the year of their 1993 National Championship.

Some of the most interesting parts of this book were the bits about recruiting the incoming freshman, which at this time were Rasheed Wallace, Jerry Stackhouse and Jeff Mcinnis.

For a true North Carolina Tar Heel fan, this is a must read so be sure and pick up Three Paths to Glory by Barry Jacobs.

Godwin Makes 5 Heels in "The Show"

The Washington Nationals have called up former Tar Heel Tyrell Godwin. Godwin played for the Heels from 1998-2000 and was the New York Yankees first round pick coming out of high school, but Godwin, a two sport star, chose to come to North Carolina to play baseball and football. I attended a game in 1998 against Stanford where I saw Tyrell return a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown. Tyrell is known for his speed, but has had some knee problems which have brought up questions whether or not, one of the once top baseball prospects, would ever make it to the league. Unfortunately Godwin struck out in his only at bat tonight against the St. Louis Cardinals Lets hope this former Tar Heel makes a splash at the Major League level and can stay a while.

Some more good news is that Russ Adams is starting to find his rythm and has now hit in 4 straight games. Russ had two hits and 4 RBIs last night in a game against the Boston Red Sox. Russ' recent hitting streak has raised his average 23 points to .252.

Both BJ Surhoff and Brian Roberts got one hit in their game against the Detroit Tigers tonight, but it wasn't enough to help the Orioles add to their lead in the east. Brian hurt his knee earlier in the week, but he seems to be okay so all of you that picked up Roberts in their fantasy league can breath easier.

Kyle Snyder has been on the DL since May 10 with a shoulder injury. Prior to his injury, Kyle had pitched in 6 games for the Kansas City Royals accumulating a 4.15 ERA in 13 innings of work.

If you are interested in seeing any baseball games or even if you can't make it, I found this site, StubHub.com and you can buy and sell tickets there, kind of like ebay, but you don't have to worry about fraud. Check it out, I think StubHub is a great site--I live in San Francisco and although I am not a San Francisco Giants fan, I get tickets through StubHub up until game time and the prices get really cheap at that point. They are located here in San Francisco so I don't know if your city would have the same type of option, but check out StubHub.

Tar Heel Baseball

It is finally good to see a former Tar Heel thriving in the Major Leagues. Brian Roberts is top 5 in virtually every major offensive category in major league baseball while playing a solid second base for the Baltimore Orioles. Unfortunately I failed to pick him up in my fantasy league. Another Oriole by the way of Chapel Hill is the well traveled BJ Surhoff, the Milwaukee Brewers former first round pick. Now is the time to get your Baltimore Orioles Tickets.

Former Heel Russ Adams is not off to such a great start and has actually seen his playing time reduced. Russ was brought up towards the end of the season last year and impressed the Blue Jays so much he was deemed their future shortstop.

The Tar Heels baseball team is currently ranked #15 in the country and will finish their season off against the #6 Georgia Tech Yellowjackets. Could it be the year that the Tar Heels get passed the Super Regionals and make it to the College World Series?

I apologize for the short and poorly written Tar Heel Baseball article, I am just testing this whole blog thing out.
